Beginners

The Beginners session is a great way to learn the fundamentals of yoga. Students learn a basic series of postures, as well as breathing and relaxation techniques. The classes build over the 8-week session to introduce and reinforce the basic principles of alignment for the poses. Experienced teachers provide a safe and fun environment with detailed instruction.

Trying it out - Intro to Yoga classes

Would you like to try out a class first to see if yoga is right for you? The Intro to Yoga is a single, one-time class that includes a brief history of yoga, a basic class sequence, a demonstration on how to use a variety of props for individual needs, and an introduction to meditation. Most of the participants in the class are brand new to yoga.

Recommended program with lesson breakdown

We've experienced that students who drop in to a regular yoga class as their first class ever, miss out on the fundamentals and tend to feel a bit confused. A new student is learning upwards of 20 poses their first time in class!

We want to provide you with the best program possible for learning about yoga. Therefore, brand new students to yoga are required to take one Intro to Yoga class and a minimum of one 8-week session in the Beginner class. In this program, new students really get great exposure to all of the facets of yoga, and develop a good inner awareness to keep them safe in almost any yoga class.

Here is a basic breakdown of what the Beginner session covers:
All classes will include basic beginner poses, guided deep relaxation and meditation. Each week will have a different point of focus to deepen the understanding of the practice.

Week One ~ Foundational poses, Proper stretch
Week Two ~ Fundamentals of breathing
Week Three ~ Half Sun Salutation
Week Four ~ Standing Poses
Week Five ~ Core Strengthening
Week Six ~ Back bends and Forward bends
Week Seven ~ Inversions for beginners
Week Eight ~ Meditation Techniques

We also recommend including a private lesson at some point in the first six  months of practice and periodically during continued practice. A private lesson ensures proper alignment in the poses to avoid bad habits that can cause physical misalignment or pain later.
